CCRC and GreenLatinos Awarded Gates Family Foundation Grant for Green Trucking Transition Work
The Community Collaborative Research Center (CCRC) received $50,000 in funding for a one-year, community-engaged and action-oriented series of research projects aimed at prioritizing community development, economic mobility, and equitable community assets while promoting health equity and environmental justice in the Denver metro region. This project, funded by the Gates Family Foundation and in partnership with GreenLatinos Colorado, aims to use qualitative research methods and robust community and stakeholder engagement practices to identify pathways to transition to a cleaner trucking industry that can support economic mobility and community development in the North Denver/Commerce City region. Building off three years of collaborative community-engaged work with GreenLatinos, the projects focus on small business owners and workers in the trucking sector.
The aims of the project are:
Conduct a broad population-based survey of fleet owners, operators, truck drivers, and warehouse workers in the NDCC region to assess attitudes, barriers, and opportunities related to diesel truck turnover
Assess readiness to adopt cleaner trucks across fleet owners and identify potential early, medium, and late adopters
Conduct in-depth interviews with specific partners representing different levels of clean trucking adoption readiness
Identify key barriers and action pathways to promote economic mobility and community development through a clean trucking transition in the NDCC region.
The CCRC is grateful to the Gates Family Foundation for the opportunity to support grassroots environmental justice organizations in the Denver metro region.
